PERFORM MIRACLE

Doctors on Tuesday the 6th of November, within a
span of 27 hours, successfully operated on two year-old Lakshmi,
a conjoined twin born with four arms and four legs, and separated
the spines. The 36-member specialist team, which operated
on Lakshmi who was separated from her parasitic twin, had
spent a month holding discussions and meticulously planning
each and every process of the surgery. This was done at the
super-specialty Sparsh Hospital. The operation was highly
challenging and difficult and was planned with each component
of the operation meticulously. Each Doctors team was given
a specific task to look at, followed by the next team, which
would do their work.
The operation, which he described as the first of its kind
in India, was the product of a group effort. Weeks before
the surgery, the team met frequently and discussed reports
of the various tests she was subjected to, including CT scan
and blood, urine and other medical tests. Pediatric surgeons
separated the organs and the orthopedic surgeons reconstructed
the pelvic ring, thereby completing the first stage of the
surgery.
The Medical world is shocked as how this operation was done,
since cases like these are very rare, maybe a dozen since
Noah sailed his Ark.
Lakshmi arrived at Sparsh Hospital, a part of Narayana Health
city on October 3 from a village in Araria district in Bihar
and underwent a series of medical tests. Parents of Lakshmi,
Shambhu, a daily wage laborer and Poonam have come with great
hopes to the hospital and have reposed complete faith in the
team. The girl was joined to a “parasitic twin'' who
stopped developing in the mother's womb, while the surviving
fetus absorbed the limbs, kidneys and other body parts of
the undeveloped fetus. The rare condition is called isciopagus.
The complications for Lakshmi's surgery are myriad: the two
spines are merged; the girl has four kidneys, entangled nerves,
two stomach cavities and two chest cavities. She cannot stand
up or walk.
Her parents kept her in hiding after a circus apparently
tried to buy the girl. The entire operation and the stay were
free of charge, courtesy of the hospital’s foundation.
