Meet Chitra Deepak Punjabi, daughter of Deepak and Usha, a Sindhi Indian despite having a misleading family name, young at 27, and had such a bad feeling about the results of the physicians licensure exam that she did not even want to look at them. Her grandparents are originally from Baguio, grandfather a Sindhi Trader, and grandma Rose, a Filipina who helped out with the business also, and has always been a friend of the community. Their parents still stay in Baguio. She is the only doctor in the family.

The New India Assurance Company Limited will be celebrating their 80th year in the Philippines on Aug 31, 2010.

Let us remember, honor and celebrate this petite lady, more so on a day which would have been the 100th birth year of Mother Teresa, had she not left us on September 5, 1997.
I personally knew Mother Teresa, and she probably would not have wanted much to do about anything; that was her nature, simple and plain. But it is unfair to her, if we did nothing. She deserves more.

Following the success of the summit held last year in Manila, the second summit is being once again organized by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P). The days are Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th.
The Philippines Dept. of Health, under its “Alternative Medicine” Department, and with the support of Fr. Jacob Gnalian, a long time resident Indian national, will bring together this convention. It will be held on Sep 25, Saturday and Sep. 26 Sunday at the U.P. College of Social Work, which is located at the University of the Philippines complex in Diliman, Q.C.
There will be few doctors from some countries, such as Germany and Dubai, who will be sharing their expertise in this program. The two days convention fee is Pesos 3000 only.
The Indian Ladies Club and BHARATI Indian Women’s Club jointly is organizing a cultural program and fun games on August 15th, Sunday. This will be held at the Makati University, near Guadalupe, Makati. The timings will be from 3 pm to 8 pm.

PRESIDENT AQUINO has appointed Joel Cadiz as the new Solicitor General.
Cadiz is a long time private law practitioner, but also worked on pro bono cases for the poor. He is the longest serving IBP national president (2003-2006). He obtained his law degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1986, where he also finished his pre-law.
