Stretching
from the mountain ranges of the Himalayas to the
Indian Ocean, India's sizeable land are makes
it the seventh largest country in the world. Generally,
India's climate is hot and tropical since most
part of the country lies between the Tropic of
Cancer and the Equator The coolest weather is
between December and February, and the hottest,
April to June. Monsoon rains, which the country
depends on to irrigate farmlands, occur between
June and September.
The cold part of the country
is in the himalayas, where the world's thrid tallest
mountain, Mt. Kanchenjunga can be found; Mt. Kanchenjunga
holds the record for being the world's third tallest
mountain at 8,208 ft. Historical accounts show
that the Himalayas were created from the Indian
subcontinent continually pushing northward towards
China by tectonic forces of the earth.
A large part of the population
lives in the Gangetic Plain, where millions of
Indians rely heavily on the water coming from
the Ganges River located south of the Himalayas.
It is reported that very little of India's surface
area is uninhabited owing to its high population
density.
